Helen writes about a broad range of topics including agriculture, gardening, food, business management, environment, rural living, health, and parenting. She excels at translating technical information into clear and concise writing that appeals to the reader. She delivers her articles on time and at word count. For a decade Helen had a monthly Food and Cooking column in the Ontario Farmer newspaper, called ‘Second Helpings’.
For ten years Helen served as the editor of the Innovative Farmers Association of Ontario quarterly newsletter and the bi-monthly publication of the Sustainable Information Bureau. She edited the 263-page University of Guelph Report on the Management of Manure in Ontario with Respect to Water Quality for the Walkerton Inquiry. She also edited a series of articles on crop residue management for the Innovative Farmers Association of Ontario.
Helen holds a B.Sc. in Agriculture from the University of Guelph. She has worked in the field as a Soil Conservation Adviser with the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food. She was also the Assistant Manager of the University of Guelph’s Sustainable Information Bureau for eight years. Helen is a member of the Eastern Canada Farm Writer’s Association and the Canadian Freelance Guild.
